Cross-party support for STL

A growing number of MPs are adopting Sustainable Travel Leave (STL) for their own staff, with MPs from three different political parties now putting the policy into practice.

STL gives employees additional paid leave when they choose lower-carbon ways to travel instead of flying, helping to make options such as train, coach and ferry travel more practical and accessible.

The growing cross-party uptake in Parliament is an encouraging sign that STL is increasingly being seen not just as a climate policy, but as a simple, affordable workplace policy that can help people choose lower-carbon travel without sacrificing more of their limited annual leave.

For MPs, adopting STL is also an opportunity to lead by example: demonstrating that employers of all shapes and sizes can make small changes to workplace policies that give staff more freedom over how they travel.

And momentum is building. What began with the first MP adopting STL earlier this year has now grown to MPs across three political parties — with more conversations underway.
